10 Reasons For and Against Dog Parks
Dog parks are all the rage these days for dog owners, but are they really all that great? There are so many different viewpoints when it comes to discussing dog parks.
Listed below are my Top 10 reasons why you should take your dog to the dog park, and my Top 10 reasons why you should NOT take your dog to the dog park:
Top 10 Reasons Why You Should Take Your Dog To The Dog Park
1. Exercise Opportunity - Dogs benefit from exercise and when they get to run off-leash and play freely at the dog park, they get plenty of exercise. Plus, they love getting the chance to really stretch their legs.
2. Dog Socialization - Because dogs are social pack animals, they enjoy interacting with other dogs. A well-socialized dog is also less likely to develop behavior problems.
3. Human Socialization - Dog parks are a great way for dog owners to meet other dog owners and to develop a friendship.
4. Owner’s Mental State - Dog parks can actually improve the mental state of the dog owners.
5. Helps the Lonely - Many people, especially the elderly, only have their dog as a companion. Going to the dog park gives them an excuse to get dressed and get out of the house to go play with their dog.
6. Relationship Encounters - Everyone knows that if a guy brings a cute puppy to the dog park, the girls come running! So, who knows? You just may meet your future wife at the dog park, or shall I say future ex-wife, because we all know she was really only interested in the puppy.
7. Strong Bond - Taking your dog to the dog park is a great way to strengthen the bond you have with them.
8. Separate Areas - Most dog parks have separate areas so the small dogs and large dogs can enjoy themselves safely.
9. Fun for All Dogs - All dogs, no matter what their size or breed, will enjoy going to the dog park because they can do their own thing without being leashed. Some dogs may prefer to lie in the shade, while others may want to play fetch with their owner.
10. Your Dog Gets Tired - A tired dog is a good dog! When a dog gets a lot of exercise at the dog park, he gets tired. When a dog is tired, he won’t constantly bark or try to destroy property. This is a good thing!
Top 10 Reasons Why You Should Not Take Your Dog To The Dog Park
1. Attacks - There’s always a possibility that either you or your dog could be attacked.
2. No Vaccinations - Many dogs do not have the proper vaccinations when they enter the dog park.
3. Diseases - Dog parks are susceptible to diseases. When so many dogs come together the chance of spreading illnesses is multiplied.
4. Too Many Holes - Dogs like to dig and their owners fail to fill in the holes before they leave. These holes can cause injury to those that step in them.
5. Female in Heat - If you take your dog to the dog park and he’s a male dog, be warned because so many people will be irresponsible and take their female dogs out in public while they’re in heat. If you spot a dog in heat, unless you’re ready for some grandpups, I suggest leaving.
6. Children - Children under a certain age shouldn’t be at the dog park. Many dog parks even have this posted as a rule, but so many dog owners feel they can ignore it. When you enter a dog park with children, you now have to keep your eye on the children as well as your dog.
7. Too Much Chit Chat - So many dog owners would rather sit and chit chat instead of paying attention to their dogs. While they’re busy discussing the latest gossip, their dog could be getting hurt, or it could be hurting another dog (or person).
8. Too Many Dogs - Most parks will post a limit on the amount of dogs a single person can bring. Well, so many people break this rule and bring more than what’s allowed. It’s best to never bring more dogs with you than you can control, even if the amount is less than the allowed limit.
9. No Water - Some dog parks provide water for the dogs through a fountain, but most do not. Always make sure you bring your dog a bottle of water so he won’t get overheated.
10. Poo On My Shoe - I can’t stand it when dog owners fail to clean up after their dogs. It’s gross and not to mention, your dog could get sick from sniffing it. So, if you decide to take your dog to the dog park, watch out for the landmines of dog poo. Your shoes will thank you for it!
If you plan on taking your dog to the dog park, visit the park alone first to make sure it looks safe for your dog to run. You definitely don’t want themrunning freely in a park with a loose fence, or in a park that’s overgrown and hasn’t been maintained properly. Be prepared to follow the rules and if you see an owner that’s not following the rules, take your dog and leave. It’s best to just leave the situation so your dog doesn’t get hurt.

The objective of Angels Watch Animal Shelter, Inc., ( a 501c3 approved non-profit organization ) is to establish a multi-acre sanctuary and adoption center for unwanted, abandoned, abused, and homeless animals.
This environmentally green facility is a no-kill center which will care for and house each animal until they can be adopted. Angels Watch will create a database with other such facilities in order to be vigilant in insuring the safe placement of and care for these pitiful animals. By having this communication network, we will be able to do our part to rescue and give the necessary shelter and care to such animals.
Our commitment to protecting these canines and horses will be to educate people on the vulnerability of these animals to being abused, abandoned, etc.
Angels Watch's immediate short term goals are to build an all “green” facility which will house nine to twelve residents at a time. We will first concentrate on establishing the facility for canines and felines.
The shelter will allow each animal to have its own living quarters. Also included will be rooms for the initial observation of each incoming resident. This facility will be equipped with a treatment room, indoor exercise rooms, areas for grooming, and the necessary space for administration offices.
The long term goals for Angels Watch will be to include horses in the community. The facility for this vision will include a barn which will house eight to twelve horses. Also in this facility will be examination and treatment areas, a grooming center, exercise or rehabilitation areas, and the necessary acreage for the natural lifestyle for horses.
Angels Watch will be steadfast in doing our part to help eliminate the horrific stories we all hear concerning the abuse, abandonment, and euthanizing of animals. This will be our mission and we are fully committed to this project. Dedicated to accomplishing our mission, we are investing each and every day towards achieving the goals and vision of this facility and future facilities.
