15 Interesting Dog Facts



Owning dogs my entire life and being the dog enthusiast that I am, I like to think that I’m pretty familiar with many facts about dogs. Well, every now and then I discover some interesting facts about dogs that surprise me! Listed below are some commonly-known ones that most of us are familiar with, but there are also some here that may surprise you.
So let’s see if you are a dog expert. For every fact listed below that you did not know, give yourself 1 POINT. For every fact that you already knew, give yourself 2 POINTS.
1. The #1 favorite breed in the U.S., Canada, and in the U.K. is the Labrador Retriever.
2. The first Hollywood dog star was Rin Tin Tin, and he signed all 22 of his contracts with a paw print.
3. The average city dog has been known to live 3 years longer than a country dog.
4. The fastest dogs on earth are Greyhounds, with speeds of up to 45 miles per hour.
5. Basset Hounds are unable to swim.
6. The #1 health problem among dogs is obesity.
7. Dogs aren’t color blind. They’re able to see in color, just not as vividly as humans.
8. A dog’s nose print is as unique as a human’s finger print and can be used for identification purposes.

11. During WWII, the Russians trained dogs to run suicide missions with mines strapped to their backs.
